The Madawaska Highlands follow the Madawaska River from Algonquin Park to Calabogie. This is a beautiful, mountainous region with many wilderness and Crown land areas, hardwood forests, and hundreds of lakes. Following the northern edge of the Madawaska Highlands is the Opeongo Line. This early settlement line is as well known for the abundance of log homesteads and outbuilding that are still in use today. Today the Opeongo Line is a favorite scenic area, particularly in the fall when the trees are changing colours.

17. Calabogie
This 11 km trail starts in the pretty town of Calabogie and follows the abandoned K&P railroad to Norway Lake.

18. Gillies Grove
A 3.6 km circular walk in the town of Arnprior by the Madawaska River then through Gillies Grove, which is a rare remnant of old growth forest.

19. Jewellville
A 14 km circular walk with fine Fall colours that leads up into the Madawaska Highlands and through the hamlet of Rosenthal.

20. Lochwinnoch
This 4 km or 8 km walk along quiet country roads, in part skirted by hardwood trees, takes the walker by a rare example of a round barn.

21. Macnamara Trail
This 4 km interpretive nature trail includes broadwalks and an observation tower which provide a grandstand view of the natural world.

22. Opeongo Road - Lake Clear
A 7 km circular walk pass the First Baptist Church and along the historic Opeongo Road and an old track with stone hedges.

23. Renfrew Millennium Trail
The Millennium Trail at Renfrew is 3.4 kilometers long and follows the route of the CN Railway through the heart of Renfrew town.
